The Big Brothers program began making a difference locally in 1972, when the program was founded in affiliation with Big Brother of America.

In 1977, we expanded our program to include Big Sisters. In June of 1996, Big Brothers & Sisters of Greater Akron expanded its efforts into Medina County, becoming Big Brothers & Sisters of Summit and Medina Counties.

Today, we are one of more than 500 Big Brothers & Sister of America affiliates across the country. Our agency is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by professionals in their fields. We are always in need of additional volunteers who can help with fundraising, as office volunteers or committee members, and as member of the Board of Directors. Please let us know if you can help.
